  • Amulets. Gorgeous Weirdness w/ Cassette Tapes.

Cassettes are beautiful. This is beautiful. Cassettes.

  • Photographic Sequence: Warning Signs On Aircraft.

My sons love it here. They’re fascinated by big *stuff* – and big aircraft are proper stuff. While they’re noticing the big stuff, I notice something smaller.

I’ve always been drawn to typography. Relaying vital information through design choices is fascinating. The Exit Sign cannot be in Zapfino.

There’s something particularly ominous about these warning signs to me. This typography is life/death; these are potentially incredibly dangerous machines to work in and around. Every sign points to a tragedy waiting to happen. These signs matter most at the scariest time.

  • Email Subscriber Error Forward Slash Oops.

Me mucking about with publishing settings of older posts last night caused email subscribers to get BOMBARDED with emails. Firstly; massive apologies! Thanks for those of you who pointed it out. And secondly; thanks for subscribing! I really hope this is proving to be an interesting/useful…

In the meantime, and to make this post more interesting than just a sheepish apology, here’s a song. Specifically, the first one…

  • Blank VHS Covers Were Kinda Beautiful.

    A synthwaver’s dream!

  • Hello Glasgow!

Just arrived in beautiful Glasgow for tomorrow night’s performance with Drake Music Scotland at Cryptic Nights. CN is a monthly event for new music at Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts.

We’re staying just down the road at CitizenM, which might be the most synthwave hotel ever. I’m watching Rocky bathed in neon. Maybe I’ll shred that Ibanez later.

  • Making Music For Vinyl: Not As Easy As I Thought…

With the news that Bandcamp will soon allow artists to offer vinyl, I was naturally intrigued by the possibility of working towards putting out a record next year. I’m very into physical media, vinyl being naturally the king of the physical space. It’s a beautiful thing, to put on a record, look at the sleeve notes, experience the album as a whole. I also notice that I’m in an analogue space, not dependent on Bluetooth or WiFi. There’s something very enjoyable about that to me.

What I didn’t know is that you can’t just press music to vinyl. How it sounds will greatly influence what’s possible. Did you know that bass heavy music takes up more room on a record? I’d heard that one, but I didn’t know you could reclaim space with quieter passages. It’s a science in itself. Luckily, I found this handy guide:

    https://masterdisk.com/blog/2018/1/2/deciding-how-long-to-make-each-side-of-your-vinyl-record

I’m still a way away from having the record together of course, but it’s still useful to know. I can’t wait. I’ve always dreamed of having a physical thing.

  • I Could Synthwave Forever.

Endless fun making endless loops for an imaginary movie made in 1988.

  • Perfume – Fusion: Hi-Tech Live Performance

This I love. My peeps from the MTF crowd will too, I’m sure. J-Pop band Perfume performing live across 3 continents in a ridiculously tightly edited video. A triumph of art, choreography and technology. And Fusion is my favourite track off the album. YEAH.
